Below is a post I put on http://www.pic-world.com
As it is a rare condition and I had trouble finding information about it I thought I would also post on here as thought it could help others.
Hello
I have been a member since April but this is my first post.
I found out on 18th of April 2007 that I had PIC. I was getting my eyes tested for new glasses and then got sent to the Hospital.
The Doctor thought I only had it in my left eye but has since found I have it in my right eye as well.
To start with the Doctor check my eye every few weeks then in June she put me on Prednisone. A low dose for 30 days, started on 40mg and reduced to 5mg. Did not see any great results from this.
Went to the Doctor in August as felt like I could always see bits of dust floating past by right eye. She took photos and told me to come back in 3 months.
Then on my birthday (13th October) I noticed what looked like a small flashing light in my right eye. This went on for two days and I rang the hospital and saw my Doctor today. She took more photos. She said the right eye is getting worse and she has put me on Prednisone. Have to take them for 30 days, starting with 60mg and going down to 10g.
She does not think they will work but says they are worth a try. She is also going to do some more research into PIC.
I live in Wellington, New Zealand and I am unsure what sort of treatment is available here.
The last 3 or 4 days have been really hard at work. I work as an Accountant and I have been having trouble seeing all the numbers on my computer, are they are fuzzy and seem to blur into one.
I do not think it is as bad as it could be as I still feel ok to drive, watching telly and get out and about. The main problem I have is with using the computer. I am really worried if this is going to effect my job and my ability to do my job.
My Doctor did say that we need to try and deal with this now as if it gets much worse then maybe I will not be able to drive.
I have some questions for everyone.
Are there many people from New Zealand on this website?
Does anyone know of a good Doctor in New Zealand for PIC?
Would you suggest I stick with my Doctor or should I try one in another country who might know more?
Should I tell my boss that I am having trouble doing my work?
Any suggestions on how to improve my computer set-up to make it more user friendly?
Thanks
Charmaine
